Have you always been a strong Catholic? Yes
How often do you adore the Blessed Sacrament? We only have it once a month at my parish.
Do you have a favorite prayer? Litany of Humility
Have you been on a pilgrimage? If so, please tell us about it. I've been on pilgrimages to Holy Land twice, Rome, (including Lanciano with the amazing Eucharistic miracle), Fatima, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Medjugorje, Poland, and Lourdes, France. They were all inspiring.
Does anyone ever ask you about your faith? Not too often
Please tell us anything else you would like us to know about your spiritual life or personal life: After becoming part of Charismatic Renewal, my faith took on a deeper dimension. Vatican II did mess with my mind for a time but now my faith is stronger than ever. We have been so blessed with the Popes in office during my lifetime. Praise God!

Have you always been a strong Catholic?
I think I am fortunate to be born a Catholic. The road was shorter in finding the Lord Jesus. But then again who knows what the adventure might have been if my ancestors weren’t Catholic.
Now I think I am a strong Catholic. I never miss Sunday and Holy Days of obligation masses. I have not missed a first Friday devotion mass. I try to go to confession regularly. I pray the rosary everyday. I donate to charity. My prayer intentions are not just for myself but for the welfare of others.
How often do you adore the Blessed Sacrament?
Not often enough. I wish the 2 parishes I attend had more adoration.
Do you have a favorite prayer?
The rosary is one of my favorites.
Have you been on a pilgrimage? If so, please tell us about it.
I went on a group pilgrimage years ago in France. We went to Lourdes and a few other parishes along the way. We went around Paris parishes and where the miraculous medals are made.
I remember the evening procession at Lourdes walking with my mother who needs a little bit of assistance walking, and seeing the Lourdes devotees, regular people and people with illnesses.
Does anyone ever ask you about your faith?
Rarely. My friends -believers, atheists, and agnostics know I am Catholic. They pretty much respect my faith. In PC California it’s almost rude to ask about religion.
Name: Linda Alicea City, State: Indianapolis, Indiana Name of Parish: St. Joan of Arc Confirmation Name: Mary Magdalene
Baptized as a Catholic (Year): 2001
Have you always been a strong Catholic?
I grew up protestant and was told that Catholics worshiped Mary and that they were not saved. I was blessed with a wonderful Catholic friend that shared with me his faith. The one thing that was most astonishing to me was the “Eucharist” growing up protestant; commune as it is called only symbolized the body and blood. So to be given the true body and blood of Christ is a beautiful gift to be treasured. Since becoming Catholic I have meet so many Catholics that have left for protestant churches, it truly breaks my heart. I truly believe there is an urgent need for Catholics to know about their faith and to experience Christ in a personal way. I love the Catholic faith, and I am blessed to find my way back to the Catholic Church, which sadly my ancestors had left back in the 1800’s.
Does your parish have perpetual Adoration? No
Any regular devotional prayer? Yes Or your favorite prayers: I love the Divine Mercy Chaplet and take time every morning during the week to pray the Chaplet before work.
Have you been on a pilgrimage? No
Does anyone ever ask you about your faith? Yes
What do you do for a living? Work for an Insurance company

Confirmation Name: Theresa
Baptized as a Catholic (Year): 1957
Have you always been a strong Catholic? A friend of mine began by telling me about Eucharistic Adoration, Reciting the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Before her discussing these things, I had never really seriously thought about them. Then, as I began to practice this more, I realized what she meant.
Tell us a little about how you grew to love the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament: As previously mentioned, because of this same friend, she had started weekly Eucharistic Adoration in this parish.
Does your parish have perpetual Adoration? Not at this time.

Name: Christa Bresnahan
City, State: Philadelphia, PA
Name of Parish: Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Confirmation Name: Elizabeth
Baptized as a Catholic (Year): 1970
Have you always been a strong Catholic? If so, why? If not, when did or what happened to make you a strong Catholic?:
With the exception of a few years of my life, I have been a devout Catholic. I attended mass every Sunday and all Holy Days of Obligation. Those few years that I can’t refer to myself as having been a strong Catholic, I now see myself as the fig tree in Christ’s parable of The Fig Tree. God did not turn his back on me. I prayed for guidance, and he patiently nudged me back to become the good Catholic that I am today.
Tell us a little about how you grew to love the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament: One of my former parishes, Nativity BVM in Media, PA celebrated its Jubilee Year in 2000, and asked its parishioners to participate in Perpetual Adoration, that is to spend at least one hour a week with the Blessed Sacrament in its chapel. I participated for about a year and a half.
Does your parish have perpetual Adoration? It does not. However, one of my former parishes did, and I came to know and love the Blessed Sacrament, and truly acknowledged it as the Body of Christ.
Any regular devotional prayer? Or your favorite prayers: I say one decade of the Rosary each night, and one of my favorite prayers is St. Patrick’s Breastplate. It protects me anytime I feel afraid.
Does anyone ever ask you about your faith? Occasionally, but it is usually the students I teach in my C.C.D. class.
What do you do for a living? I’m a fourth grade teacher.
Any other personal information you would like to share: siblings, education, etc.: I’m the middle child, of a family of three children. My sister is older, and I have a younger brother.
Hobbies: Besides spending time with family, especially my nephews and nieces, my favorite pastime is reading articles and books about near-death experiences.

Name: Barbara Finnegan
City, State: Utica, New York
Name of Parish: St. Joseph-St. Patrick, Utica. Presently
attending an indult Tridentine Latin Mass Chapel, St.
Elizabeth Ann Seton, Utica
Confirmation Name:Mary
1954 (year of birth)
Have you always been a strong Catholic? If so, why? If not, when did or what happened to make you a strong Catholic?
YES. I have always
gone to Mass, first with my family when I was younger,
then on my own as an adult. I stayed strong even
during the 'crazy years' after the Council, growing up
in the 1960s and 1970s. Once I thought of becoming a
Carmelite nun (I love St. Therese!), but that was not
meant to be.
Tell us a little about how you grew to love the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament:
I always loved going to church, and I began to have a deep
devotion to Our Lady ever since my confirmation in
1966. She brought me to Our Lord in the Blessed
Sacrament.
Does your parish have perpetual Adoration?
YES. It's been going on since 1992. I have been a 'charter
member' since then.
Any regular devotional prayer? Or your favorite prayers:
I love the Rosary-I pray it everyday. I also like the Chaplet of Mercy.
PILGRIMAGES: OH YES! I have gone to Italy (4 times),
France (5 times),England (7 times), Portugal (4 times), and Spain
(once). I loved Rome, Assisi, Loreto; Lourdes, Lisieux, Paray-le-Monial, Nevers, Domremy, Orleans,
Rouen; London, Canterbury, York, Ely, Aylesford; Fatima; Avila and Segovia! I saw Pope Paul VI once 1977) and John Paul II three times (1979, 1981, 1983). I've also been to the Canadian shrines of Our Lady of the Cape, Ste-Anne de Beaupre, and St. Joseph's Oratory.
Does anyone ever ask you about your faith?
I used to work in a Catholic bookstore in Utica. People asked me for
information about the Faith as part of my job, and I always tried to "go the extra mile' to give them that. I think for the most part, people respected me for my
faith.
What do you do for a living? Presently I'm unemployed, but my previous
jobs were in the banking industry (clerical work) and
retail (the bookstore).
Any other personal information you would like to share: siblings, education, etc.: I have two sisters, Joanne, who is married-no children, and Pat-my twin sister. She is
single like me, but doesn't go to church. My parents
are deceased. I attended a local public high school
and went to a business school in the city after
graduation. Just diplomas-no degree. I hated school!
Hobbies: Reading (Saints' lives, Church history,
secular history, biographies), travel, music ('oldies'
and classical), animals (dogs).

Name: Jesús Salinas
City, State: Brownsville, Texas
Name of Parish: Saint Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church
Confirmation Name: José de Jesús
Baptized as a Catholic (Year): 1968, when three months old.
Have you always been a strong Catholic? If so, why? If not, when did or what happened to make you a strong Catholic? I was baptized as a child, but didn’t practice the faith until I was a teenager. For a few years, my mother attended fundamentalist sects. I was made to go but felt so uncomfortable there. At 16, I took the steps to receive the Eucharist for the first time and began my journey of faith in earnest. The teaching on the True Presence is what led me out of the sects and into the Church. My mom returned, too!
Tell us a little about how you grew to love the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament: I would visit the cathedral as a child with my mother. People were always so quiet and reverent. The smell of candles and flowers around the altar impressed on my young mind a sense of the sacred. That was lost when I attended fundamentalist sects. At 16, I was visited by the Legion of Mary. They invited me to the local Catholic Church. I began attending but could not receive the Eucharist because I lacked instruction. During a mission by the Vincentian Fathers, I received the Lord for the first time in the Blessed Sacrament. Only the priest and I knew it was my First Holy Communion, but it was as if the whole world knew what God had done for me that day because I was so happy and grateful to receive Him in the Eucharist!
Does your parish have perpetual Adoration? A neighboring parish, Saint Mary, Mother of the Church, had a chapel for years, but it was closed last year while the church is renovated. In order for the Adorers to continue their ministry of prayer and praise uninterrupted, a provisional chapel was set up in the cry room of my parish, Saint Luke. That is where I started attending, although I was already a regular devotee of the Blessed Sacrament. Now I am on a regular schedule twice a week, and I can also drop by whenever I want. I usually take advantage of visits to parishes throughout the diocese to visit the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament as devotion of the First Fridays and Perpetual Adoration are gaining popularity down here.
Any regular devotional prayer? Or your favorite prayers: I really enjoy the Liturgy of the Hours, psalms and canticles from the Scriptures, especially the Office of Readings because there is so much to draw from in order to sustain my faith. The Scriptures and the writings of the Early Church Fathers are ordered in such a way that they coincide with the liturgical year. If there is any point I do not understand, I consult with my Catechism of the Catholic Church. The morning and evening Hours offer intercessions for the universal Church and that helps me to focus on the needs of others and not just my own. The novena of Padre Pio “Oh Jesus, Who has said…” is also a favorite. The Anima Christi after taking Holy Communion and many others are wonderful expressions of faith, yet even silence before the Eucharistic Lord is golden. Just spending time in His presence, thinking about His life and saving grace, His greatness and my nothingness, is like a prayer of the heart. Sometimes, I practice the Jesus Prayer from The Way of a Pilgrim but I have a long road to travel before reaching the spiritual heights described in that classic work!
Have you been on a pilgrimage? If so, where? Tell us about it or what you remember most or the thing that was impressed on you the most about it: I went to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the Solemnity of the Assumption in 1996. At the time, I was separated from my wife. I prayed with all my heart to Our Lady of Guadalupe for a reconciliation with my wife. Instead, she went through with the civil divorce and after several delays (which I attributed to Our Lady’s intercession!), the divorce was granted on December 12, Feast of O.L.O. Guadalupe. I felt betrayed and abandoned by God and Our Lady. I felt that no one suffered a pain like mine. I stayed away from the sacraments for two years. One day, as Providence would order things, I met two Poor Clare nuns begging for alms. I decided to go one step further and visit them at their monastery, take them a donation and ask for their prayers. When I met them, my sufferings paled in comparison. They didn’t have enough to eat at times, yet were so joyful and fervent in their praise of God. It didn’t make sense to me, but with the passing of time and the counsel of a wise Franciscan priest, I returned to the Sacraments and put things in their proper perspective. The Lord Jesus was not spared suffering, and He was good to all, how could I expect to be treated better? I now thank Our Lady of Guadalupe for covering me with her mantle during a most difficult period of my life. I sought and was granted an annulment. I am a single father to an angel of the Lord, my daughter Clarissa Alexandra, who accompanies me joyfully every time I volunteer to help the Poor Clares in their need.
Does anyone ever ask you about your faith? I am regularly asked for prayers, confused for a priest or told I should be a permanent deacon and it puzzles me because I do not believe I do enough to promote my faith. When that happens, I usually take advantage of the opportunity to witness to the person making such a comment and point out that all the baptized have a duty to preach Christ with their prayers, actions and words last. Apart from speaking to proselytizers of other denominations who offer me their literature, I promote devotion to the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, the Litany of the Divine Mercy, Our Lady’s Rosary and the Liturgy of the Hours. Also, praise and worship songs from religious Sisters I volunteer with or such Catholic singers as Matt Maher.
What do you do for a living? I am the proposal writer for the Diocese of Brownsville and have served in this capacity for 14 years. I work with all parishes, schools and ministries in a four county area on the border with Mexico. Approximately 888,000 Catholics live here, and my job is to secure financial support for projects that do not have the resources to fulfill their mission.
